A Beautiful Spring – Weekly Photo Challenge

As you can see from my earlier post, we are happily rocking the spring here in North Central Texas (Dallas/Fort Worth area). And although we have had a few unusually cold nights, all in all, we are having a fabulous spring. Much cooler and longer than any previous years. I guess the season is taking its time to move on (just like stubborn winter!).

But you know? I love this time of year. Not quite as much as I love Fall, but almost.

One of the first blooms to make their appearance in the spring are the wild clover. They pop up in the yard just before the first mow of the new season. I blogged about them in Spring of 2011 (also a weekly photo challenge) right in this post here. See? I told you I loved them and so does my sweet pup.

Unfortunately, we have mowed them down and weeded them out (in the stark tradition of having a unified green fairway lawn). I don’t know why I can’t talk my husband into having a wildflower yard. Wouldn’t that be spectacular? A nature photographer’s dream? I can see birds and butterflies flitting about. Lots of variety and color. He wouldn’t even have to mow…

Hmmmm, maybe next year…

In the meantime, frozen in time before their untimely trim. My gorgeous yard clover captured with my most favorite Nikon.

Aren’t they beautiful? I love how they kick off spring with such pop and flair.

This post is part of the Weekly Photo Challenge by the good people at The Daily Post on WordPress. I love their weekly challenges and inspiration. Please stop by and see other entries. Maybe, just maybe, you will be inspired to enter your own. I would love to see if you do, leave me a comment so I can stop by.

Happy Spring!

Birds of the Dallas Zoo

Of all the animals and sights to see at the Dallas Zoo, I had no clue I would fall madly in love with the birds of the zoo. These photos represent a small chink in the variety and multitude of the birds on exhibit there.

In fact, these photos are from only ONE of the exhibits, specifically, the bird aviary in the Children’s zoo section called, Travis & Zach’s Birds Landing. What makes this exhibit even more unique is the beautiful garden the birds live in and how all the birds have been hand-raised.

I think the birds had me at the very first flush of feathers right in the entryway.

Hello friends.

A fella that knows how to find the best perch.

My friend and guide of the exhibit.

Hope you enjoyed their charm as much as I did.

Wordless Wednesdays

Oh, Halloween with Your Scary Movies and Pesky Treaters

I just had to share some cuteness from the holiday. Technically pre-holiday since some I took on Averey’s two month photo shoot.

Halloween night Jason went trick or treating with the girls (and Fred the Cat) while I worked til dark. And after work, I tackled some photo edits. The all-women’s photography group I started with five other women over a year ago called, Chics Who Click, sponsored the photography for The North Texas Buddy Walk. I got back into town on a Friday night from Milwaukee and shot the event the next morning. *That* is a whole ‘nother blog post, but one of the reasons I was on the computer and not handing out candy (a very good reason!).

Finally, I get to sit in the living room for the first time about 8pm. I flipped on the TV for some non-thinking time and somehow get sucked in to watching Mama – in the dark – all by myself. My daughter so kindly texted me her advice to NOT watch it alone. *cry!*

Too late.

So now, I get to sleep with the flashlight next to my bed. Thanks Mama!

And now for that cuteness I promised you….

I warned you about her cuteness. I could barely stand to put her down to take her photos. I’d rather hold her and talk to her, but someone has to photograph this baby. Might as well be Grammy.

On the same day as her two-month old photo shoot, we stopped at a little pumpkin patch off the side of the road. I thought…wouldn’t it be cute to get her photo with lots of pumpkins?

Oh sure……

It is absolutely darling and Bridget is such a good little Auntie and holds her just perfectly.

After a few clicks, the show was over and baby wanted nothing to do with any pumpkins. Or Halloween. Or Pirate ladies that worked there wanting some baby snuggles. Or buying pumpkins. Or being held over a pumpkin. Or letting both Aunties hold her while I got a picture in the pumpkins of all of them. Nope none of that.

And when the talent is not happy, ain’t nobody happy.

Not to worry. I picked her right up and held her close. A little rock and little sway and this grand girl was just fine.

And no more pumpkin patches…..for a year anyway.

Hope you all had a wonderful Halloween. We are heading to Oklahoma tomorrow to see my Mom and take a four generational photo. Any guesses on who will be the star of the shoot?

All I can say is…… more baby time for Grammy!

What does a Giraffe Say?

Hee hee hee – huh-how how how – hee dee hee – duh-how how how!

Transalation: How to take over Facebook and get away with it!

© Angelia's Photography

Oh yes, he did….all over Facebook!

It is the famous Giraffe Riddle. Have you seen this? Posted this? Answered this?

This is what happens.

If you read this riddle on a “friend’s” Facebook status, and guess the answer by private message, getting it right, all is good. Your profile photo remains untouched and aren’t you a smart little non-giraffe person. BUT if you get it wrong. You are a Giraffe and have to change your pic and post this status.

I answered a riddle and got it incorrect. Try the great giraffe challenge! The deal is I give you a riddle. You get it right you get to keep your profile pic. You get it wrong and you change your profile pic to a Giraffe for the next 3 days.
MESSAGE ME ONLY SO YOU DONT GIVE OUT THE ANSWER.
Here is the riddle:
3:00 am, the doorbell rings and you wake up. Unexpected visitors, It’s your parents and they are there for breakfast. You have strawberry jam, honey, wine, bread and cheese. What is the first thing you open? Remember… message me only. If you get it right I’ll post your name here. If you get it wrong change your profile picture….”

And the answer? Let’s say it is………debatable.

Isn’t everything? (looking at you congress)

I am *not* giving the answer here, but I will direct you to a recent article called, The Great Giraffe Riddle Debate. Meaning the majority of incorrect, giraffe glorified profile users are right. But does that mean the ones that didn’t change their profile photos to a Giraffe should change theirs? Or are they both right? And how can that be?

The riddle’s answers are giving birth to riddles. It is Giraffe anarchy!

Most of the Facebook users are sick and tired of Giraffes. If they never laid their eyes on another giraffe….they would be so happy.

But me, I don’t mind. Maybe, I got the riddle wrong (or right?). Hey, I played by the rules. I changed my profile photo.

No one made me. I just happened to have photos of a baby giraffe I adore. I call him Baby G.

I don’t know his real name, but I met him at the Zoo. I notice him lean his tall, long, bobbly head to the ground for some grass. Totally doable if you are a baby giraffe, and you spread your legs just a bit. So out they go, and down he nibbles. But when he tries to get up? Oh, whoops, not so easy for Baby G.

© Angelia's Photography

He snaps his legs back together in a hop, slap kind of way. Making quite a show of it to the greatly amused crowd. I laughed. On the inside. On the outside. Holding my camera just so. I did not want to miss this. My favorite part is when he looks around to see if the bigger giraffes have noticed his folly.

Nope! Okay, then…off he goes to figure out a new riddle for Facebook.

And keep us all in the land of Crazy-raffe.

Have you changed your profile pic today?

******Inspiration for this post brought to you by Facebook and my nine-year old’s most! favorite! best! song! of all-time! -“What does the Fox say?”*******

Pretty sure he says the same thing as the giraffe.

Hee hee hee – huh-how how how – hee dee hee – duh-how how how!
