And She Danced….

Dancing faces you towards Heaven, whichever direction you turn. ~Terri Guillemets

In the summer we have a month of full custody with the little girls. That means they go from spending four nights in a month at Dad’s house … 27 nights in a month at Dad’s house. It’s a BIG change for everyone, but one that we enjoy, because instead of just visiting…….it feels like they really live here (and those on the visitation side totally get that).

This year we had the opportunity to sign the girls up for a few summer activities while we had them. And for the youngest, I found a dance place that did Tuesday night classes for the month of July. It equaled out to almost the same time/days as the oldest step-daughter’s chosen activity for July – a week long photography camp (more on that later).

I couldn’t be happier for both of them.

Bridget is a very girly girl. She dances all the time. From room to room, and in the car (Syd and I taught her that – ha!). She carries an old iPhone around that plays music. She looooooves it. We watch America’s Got Talent in the summer. There is LOTS of dancing. This was a very easy choice for her when asked, “Would you like to do dance class?”

So we trekked to SEVERAL places to find alllll the outfits for tap/ballet and hip hop. That is leotards, tights, tap shoes, ballet shoes, and hip hop shoes. Yes, hip hop shoes. Basically, dance sneakers and NOT sneakers. Dance sneakers have a flexible middle sole. We could only find them in a dance shop in West Fort Worth.

But it was all worth it to see her face on the first day of dance class (I’m really late in posting these).

She LOVED it.

We were a little worried because after tap/ballet class. She is required to CHANGE ROOMS to hip hop class. They assured us they would help her get from room to room and they did.

She made it from room to room. She even showed us a super cute dance move after a couple of classes. This kid is a natural.

Molly trying to beat the snap of the shutter. Maybe we should put her in track?

Next week is parent observation, we get to sit in on the last ten minutes of class to see what they have learned. Pretty exciting…..

She tells me she looooves ballet the best.

And she is already asking to be enrolled into fall classes. The fall classes are a season, not a month, and would have a recital in pretty costumes at the end.

Oh Summer. I love you. I love the joys you bring to our kids.

**I apologize for the photo quality of these images. I was actually working when she left and had a only few minutes to snap a few photos. Wouldn’t you know the camera was on the wrong settings? Ahh! LOL. Also, I haven’t been around much because I am buried under my full-time job in travel, being a full-time step mom this month, and finishing three photography jobs. I hope to see the light at the end of the tunnel soon!

Dance class? No sweat!

Unless you have two left feet and attempt it. Ever tried it? Ever been so klutzy dancing with a handsome man, who sports 11 1/2 size clods, but you still manage to trip over your own size 7’s? No? Boy, you are missing out. I am extremely ungifted in grace. It’s an art I tell you. Whoops.

Funniest thing of all, Jason’s grace, is typically just as bad. We have to hold on to some hope that one of us will have a good day. I can’t tell you how many times, in a day, he drops his keys or I drop mine and I wonder, GEE, if we had a baby would that be dangerous? But I digress…

So, Jason signed us up for dance class on Monday nights at 8pm. It is the ONLY time we can possibly make or fit a class into both of our schedules. When I say ONLY? I mean it. They don’t offer that many classes for couples. Monday and Tuesday is it. Tuesday, he has graduate class. Monday, he has the girls until 7pm. That means the 6pm Waltz and the 7pm Two-step is not possible. 8PM is the ONLY time. Period.

That said, the 8pm IS a couples class, which is great. It’s uhhh a couples class to learn a dance of Foxtrot, Waltz and Swing. And it’s uhhhh couples class to learn a dance of Foxtrot, Waltz and Swing choreographed to music for the first dance at your WEDDING as bride and groom. Oooops! See what I mean? *how do I manage to get myself into these things?*

No, we are not getting married (so far as I know…yet?), that’s why I say it was the ONLY class we could make. We figured, what the heck, it will be fun. I dreaded the “When is your date?” question which, of course, occurred in the first five minutes of class. I gotta give it to Jason, who smoothly answered, “We don’t have a date yet”, smiling the whole time. The teacher gracefully waves her hand in the air, in a no matter motion, and proclaims, “Then, you have plenty of time to learn the dance.” *Love her attitude*

Whooosh, I felt so much better after that and not so much of an impersonator. Seriously, I wasn’t sure what would happen. I didn’t know, if he’d have to drop to one knee and propose, or they’d just kick us out or what? How dare they come to this class? They are not even getting married. Ha! Come to find out, no biggie at all.

I really wasn’t nervous (as I should have been) about dancing. It was really exciting. I have never learned any kind of formal dance with a partner. Getting to be in the arms of Jason, while learning something that will change my life (even if I don’t ever use it) was very enchanting.

We learned the basic steps of Foxtrot. Men first, for their part, then the girls, for their part, then finally, together. Sweet! Okay, I fumbled a bit, but really it was pretty easy. Jason and I had a nice rhythm going. Next, she taught basic conversation (good for the wedding photographer to catch the beaming bride and groom faces-snicker). We were swinging around going way faster than the other couples and having a blast.

Then, she taught us the spin. Oh! WHAT? I turn this way then feet this way then pick up Foxtrot again? Huh? Slow, slow , quick, quick , turn, turn, slow, quick. Ahhh!! Yes, this was the point when I somehow managed to trip over my OWN shoe and barely (and I do mean barely) managed not to fall in front of the class with the (Oh,Oh,Oh) hands pin wheeling, as I flew towards the floor, just glimpsing my flailing self in the floor to ceiling mirror. Luckily, my hero saved me from that embarrassment, as he calmly grabbed me, holding me up, arms tight around me. Phew!!!

Around and around we went. My hips started burning. Wow, what a long song. I was starting to sweat. No wonder they lose so much weight on Dancing with the stars. OHMIGOSH when is the music going to stop? OUCH! Missed a step , sorry my bad, yah your boot hurts! Other than not letting go of my hand on one spin and twisting it, we were good. When we had it, it was awesome. However, we definitely need lots more practice. We have three more classes to learn our bride and groom first dance. *that always makes me laugh*

I even started looking for songs. (well why not?) Everyone else has music (you know the ones ACTUALLY getting married). I can’t let them show us up. Know any good Foxtrot ballroom dance songs? I really do want a modern song re-made. I think that would be cool but I may end up with a classic. There are a few I like. If anything? This is GREAT exercise and couple bonding time.

Dance like no one is watching. Unless you are in a classroom full of people with a big ole mirror, then pretend you know what your doing.

I must have a life

I must. It can’t go by so quickly otherwise.

Another crazy, superfast, funfilled weekend, featuring adorable little girls, and a best friends beautiful wedding has whipped by. Here it is MONDAY (again!).  Not only Monday, but ohmygosh, MID-September. Are you serious? Wasn’t it JUST September like, last week?

Don’t I have to shop for Christmas and be DONE before Sydney leaves for Gulfport, MS the 19DEC? How many paychecks before Christmas anyway? Seven? Holy Moly!

I feel like I am losing my mind. I have soooo many things to do but NOTHING gets done.

I even have a to do list application on my iPhone.  FULL of things to do but nothing checked off. Most times, one thing  leads to ten other things to do.  I feel like I’m in a time warp, same old things repeating, but nothing every accomplished.  Is it me?

Ok, so it’s Monday and maybe THAT’S what it is. Or maybe…. as I edge closer to 40, I spend so much time looking for things, I, either can’t remember, or misplaced, that by the time I figure it out, a week or two (or was it three?) has gone by.

Maybe… I’m just trying to sort through it all Every. Single. Day…..Did I lock the car? Better press the button again. Did I lock the house? Where are my keys again?  Was the  back door locked after I let the dogs in? Check, re-check, check again. Did I put that in the junk cabinet? or out in the file cabinet in the garage? Or maybe my room?? Attic? Did I pay insert name of bill here? Have the dogs been outside? Are the dishes in the dishwasher clean or dirty? How old IS that coffee creamer in the fridge? Was it really three days since I blogged? When does Italian class start? Oh gosh, what time was that at? Is my after hours on call week this next week or the next? Is lunch ALREADY over? Crap, it’s busy at work! SURELY the economy is improving? When is the last time I got the mail from my PO box?  Wonder if it’s overflowing? How in the world am I going to remember to drop my car off at the body shop before work tomorrow? Is it FRIDAY??? YET?????

Hallelujah! I just discovered my incredible boyfriend just signed us up for DANCE class together! That sure brightens up my Monday. Now, I’ll have dancing with Jason to look forward to.  I bet I remember that one.
