Weekly Photo Challenge: Fleeting Moment

I wasn’t sure if I was going to make this week’s challenge. I thought I would have – so much time – now that I am working from home. But THAT is not the case….

I am busier than ever. My morning commute time lapsed into extra sleep time (bad!bad!bad!). And my evening commute time? Well….I have no idea. I haven’t been able to depart my “job” on time (most nights) and so it seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle of that lateness. We, also, have the little girls here all month, and by the time I am due to be off, Jason is home from his job as well. It gets a little crazy.

Having a door to close off from everyone does WONDERS.

But, this working from home thing is pretty new, so I am sure I will get a better hang of the time management part soon (and wake up earlier again!).

This fleeting moment was caught yesterday on the River Brazos where our family spent Fourth of July. I realize it is not a exactly a “street” view. However, the river was our street as we floated along our watery walkway among other motor crafts.

I was capturing the sunset when a couple pulled up on a jet ski. It was like they were part of the scene. I think they were destined to pose their fleeting moment just for me.

This was way too beautiful of a setting not to share.

And let me just add……watching sunsets and fireworks on the river? Absolutely amazing.

Growing Up California

No, I didn’t grow up in California, but it was in growing up that I fell in love with California. The summer of age twelve, I spent a month in San Diego. A week of that month was at Ocean Beach. At an impressionable age, on-the-cusp of my teen years, California left its mark in my life.

That summer wasn’t easy. My parents had separated. Southern California was our my escape. I didn’t have to worry about my family or the changes that were taking place. All my troubles washed away in the Pacific.

At the end of summer, I went back to my home in the Oklahoma countryside, where my accent wasn’t cute anymore and people didn’t ask to hear me talk. I sounded like everyone else again, and I missed the care-free days of the summer. So, I decorated my bedroom walls with posters of surfers. I was determined to hold on to the magic of my California summer.

Surrounded by 60-foot waves, I dreamed of beach days and mushroom omelets at the beachside cafe.

My love for California never departed from my heart. Every chance I get, I go back to remember and dream of those summer days that meant so much to me.

Jason and I leave tomorrow for California and will spend a whole week “California Dreamin”. On our radar is San Diego, Palm Springs, Big Bear Lake, and Ventura. Who knows where else in-between, lots of places I haven’t been to. We don’t have a schedule or strict plan. Our only plan is do and see and go.

I will be taking LOTS of photographs.

Truthfully? Tomorrow morning can’t get here fast enough.

I am not even sure what I’m looking forward to more….sunsets on the beach, being off work, visiting the San Diego Zoo, or under 100 degree days.

Whatever we do, I can promise you, it will be enjoyed.

My next post will be from my iPhone in CALI!!!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Light

So many things to say about light.

Light of the world.

Light of my life.

Warm, bright, and cheerful.

So many ways to interpret light.

Observing, feeling, and seeking.

Light evokes emotions, thoughts, and desires.

Light lives, breathes, and dies.

But why say anything about light when you can see it’s brilliance in so many ways……..

Street Lights
A simple street lamp. A star.

Heart Light
A glowing heart. Love.

Neon Sign
A neon sign. A beacon of hospitality satisfying and full. Comfort in a dark night.

Sydney
A gentle glimpse of soft light in shadow.

Lake Marble Falls
Flowing action. Fluid movement. The wind chases the light. The light chases the day.

A static charge in a dark sky. To light the path in happy colors.

Illumination. A simple beauty in color and style.

Golden Reflection
A golden path. A hazy hillside bathed in heaven’s reflection.

Lake Sunset
Sunset. The last breath of sun. The end of a dying day. A sigh. A whisper. A goodnight.

Glorious light fitted with so many shades and tones. Can you feel it?

I think light is contagious and it’s thrilling to share it in this weekly photo challenge from The Daily Post at WordPress.

May light shine in and around you today, and always. Happy Monday!

Sunset of Fire – Blaze Sky Blaze

Animate us with your feverish good-night. Saturate us in your fiery exit.

It’s not often I see a red sunset. I see pink ones, yellow ones, pale orange with purple swirl ones, and aqua blue hues with hot pink center ones. Lovely pale palettes of majesty. All sorts of gorgeous colors, but nothing ablaze, not until last night. And maybe? I just haven’t been paying attention.

I’ve noticed it’s rare for me to watch a sunset, or better yet take the time to watch a sunset. I’m usually driving home from work, doing weekend laundry, making or eating dinner, and every other thing that snatches our sunset watching time. Besides, I live in an urban area. It’s hard to see the sun setting through the new housing additions, and shopping centers.

But last night, we happened to be at the right place, at the right time, with the right view.

A park.

The sun’s timing was impeccable. It was just as we were getting into the car, I saw a red glow from the hillside. I thought…… why don’t we just walk up there and see. I had practiced silhouette portraits earlier with the family I was taking pictures for; the reason for being at the park that time of day. It’s something I have admired on other photo blogs and wanted to try to for myself.

In the midst of a red sunset, I was in photography heaven. It’s not often I have a crimson glow, my new camera, and my teenage model daughter with me.

These pictures are unedited. I did not add my watermark, nor alter them in any way. It is exactly as I saw it through the lens.

Blaze sky, blaze.

What a way to end the day. Thank-you God for such a stunning scene. And my teen?

Was she adrift in the moment of her silhouette debut? Soaking up the rays as one with nature? Ummm, not so much. But, maybe she lit a text or two ablaze. Heh.

Happy Monday of the Thanksgiving week!
