A Post Full of Joy

And pretty, pretty yellow lights.

And also…

…a very cute baby that I adore.

I tried to do Christmas photos on Sunday of all the kids. My step-daughters and grand baby. I got lights set up. I got the flash set up.

But…they spent half the day at church and the rest of the time one of them had a school project. She worked on it allllllll weekend loooong.

The baby was way too quick for me. I’m lucky I got two. Everyone always says….Oh, I can’t wait til they start walking! Um, No…just no…not when you are a photographer.

So maybe, we didn’t get Christmas photos this year. Maybe, we don’t have a card to send out.

But do you know what we do have?

Joy.

Heart-felt…full-on…precious JOY.

Wishing you all the joy your heart can hold. This season and always.

A City of Relics

The Daily Post at WordPress weekly photo challenge is to find your relic. The first thing that comes to mind is the fabulous and dying (but resurrecting) Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells, Texas.

However, I have posted about it many times, mainly because, I am fascinated and (mostly) terrified of it.

So that left my other fascinating relic, which is pretty much the entire city of San Francisco. And yes, I have posted about it many times too, and that is because I have SO MANY PHOTOGRAPHS in my vault that have never seen the light of day (until now).

Some of these relics are very old, and some are not so old, and some are just icons that may become relics.

This is the creepy relic of a prison called Alcatraz. Softened by the gentle drift of a sailboat on the bay.

This is the absolutely stunning SS Jeremiah O’Brien. One of two remaining Liberty ships from the World War II era. It is distinguished as being the last unaltered Liberty ship that makes it historically accurate. The beauty moors at Pier 45 in San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf.

These are the Historic streetcars, trolleys, and trams of San Francisco. They call them the museums of motion and that is so true. It is a flashback in time to ride, not to mention a genius way of moving around San Francisco, while saving your legs from the enormous amount of walking. This form of transport is classic and you will feel fortunate to have the opportunity to be part of the memories of these cool cars.

Lotta’s Fountain is a donation to the city by the entertainer Lotta Crabtree in 1875. The most famous thing about this relic is that it is known to be the meeting place of the survivors of the 1906 fire/earthquake every year at 5:12 on April 18th. It is said the reason they meet is because many people, after the big quake, said “Let’s meet at Lotta’s Fountain”. It was the one place still standing that everyone knew the location of.

Chinatown. Just look at the photo and you can see the relic signs in the background. The rich culture of an area with the elaborate displays of a heritage on every corner.

This is the sign of a once vibrant sea port, and now famous for a vibrant tourism. It signifies a maritime history that only lives at San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf.

I hope you can agree with me that San Francisco is a city loaded with history and relics.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Friday Night Lights: Food Truck Style

Our local parks and recreation created a sensational show of food and entertainment when it invited food truck vendors to set up shop in our neighborhood.

Food, fun, and family. The three F’s of summer.

Luckily the park they selected to feature this row of delicious fanfare ended up only a few miles from our house. So of course….OF COURSE….we had to be there. Yes, it is a little pricey (for dishes made in a moving vehicle). But truly you are paying for the atmosphere. The people-watching. The adorable pet-watching (my favorite). The unique food vendors. And just mingling with your neighborhood.

The sights and sounds are just as delicious as what you are tasting.

As the sun sets and the shadows change, the entire view changes.

What do you order? Where do you go?

How do you choose your favorite flavor?

Splitting the family up is always a good idea. More trucks = more tastes.

And maybe you hit the same truck more than once. There is no shame in that. I know we did.

Eating!

Favorite food truck? A Taste of Cuba. They have the best funnel cake fries.

Favorite dessert? Definitely, What’s da Scoop? But the snow cone truck was a close second.

These are not all the photos from our Friday Night delights, but they are ones that I see the most contrast…which happens to be the weekly photo challenge theme this week on The Daily Post at WordPress. Do you love images of light and dark? Be sure to check out the other entries. And? Look up your local parks. Maybe you have a Food Truck network nearby.

Eat mobile. It’s delicious.

Room to Bounce

In March, we took the girls to Oklahoma to visit my mom for her 72nd Birthday. It’s not a far trip (only about 3 hours) and we usually make a day out of it.

This trip we spent time at my brother’s house, too. He has a step-daughter in between Molly and Bridget’s age. And guess what she has in her backyard?

A trampoline.

Of course the girls LOVED it.

They bounced and bounced and bounced.

In fact, I had to make them get off so we could head back to Texas.

But it got me thinking…..What if they had room to bounce at OUR house? What if they had room to bounce at their MOM’s house?

What if I got the youngest to ask for a TRAMPOLINE for her birthday!

A plan was born and all I had to do was *insert idea* in the little ones brain.

I’ve heard she has worked on it (with BOTH parents!).

Can you blame her?

A girl needs room to bounce!

At the end of this month, we shall see if my our devious plan worked.

Not that I would take over a kid’s trampoline, or anything? Heh.
