Spilt-Second Love Story

Family in town.

Pre-wedding dinners.

Pre-wedding jitters.

All the plans, appointments, and schedules.

All of it coming together.

All because two people fell in love.

In a spilt-second that love captured for all time.

It takes a second to say I love you, but a lifetime to show it. ~ Anonymous

This is the love story of my niece and her new husband Zane. I am absolutely over the moon happy for her and very blessed to capture their special day.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Twist

Oh, the joys and excitement of field day at school. It marks a day of celebration.

No schoolwork! No books!

A day that sings of Summer and the freedom of summer. In fact, on a bright sunny field day, with a sky super blue, and the clouds just this side of light and fluffy…I am told you can even SMELL Summer.

Yeah.

There are games, competitions, concession stands, and WATER play. Teachers have fun. Parents have fun. And did I mention no homework?

This is one of the greatest days of the year (to an elementary child). And guess what? I get to be there.

For the first time in forever, I make it to field day. How thrilling! I thought my elementary school days ended for good (since I have a twenty-year-old daughter). Ahhhh, but that is the reason step kids are called BONUS kids.

See….???? Bonus! How can you not smile about that? I sure am.

The challenge this week is to “twist”.

I can’t think of anything more twisted than a rope.

And what goes with rope?

TUG OF WAR!

This is my youngest tugging her ever-loving heart out. Oh, she tugged. She sweat. She even stuck her tongue out (so cute!).

In the end…

They still lost the war.

::sad face::

But you know what? Doesn’t matter. It might be the end of field day, but summer is thisssssss close.

Just stop and smell the breeze…you’ll catch a whiff and I bet it takes you back to your sweetest days of summer.

Have a happy weekend! And a most blessed Memorial Day!

A Beautiful Spring – Weekly Photo Challenge

As you can see from my earlier post, we are happily rocking the spring here in North Central Texas (Dallas/Fort Worth area). And although we have had a few unusually cold nights, all in all, we are having a fabulous spring. Much cooler and longer than any previous years. I guess the season is taking its time to move on (just like stubborn winter!).

But you know? I love this time of year. Not quite as much as I love Fall, but almost.

One of the first blooms to make their appearance in the spring are the wild clover. They pop up in the yard just before the first mow of the new season. I blogged about them in Spring of 2011 (also a weekly photo challenge) right in this post here. See? I told you I loved them and so does my sweet pup.

Unfortunately, we have mowed them down and weeded them out (in the stark tradition of having a unified green fairway lawn). I don’t know why I can’t talk my husband into having a wildflower yard. Wouldn’t that be spectacular? A nature photographer’s dream? I can see birds and butterflies flitting about. Lots of variety and color. He wouldn’t even have to mow…

Hmmmm, maybe next year…

In the meantime, frozen in time before their untimely trim. My gorgeous yard clover captured with my most favorite Nikon.

Aren’t they beautiful? I love how they kick off spring with such pop and flair.

This post is part of the Weekly Photo Challenge by the good people at The Daily Post on WordPress. I love their weekly challenges and inspiration. Please stop by and see other entries. Maybe, just maybe, you will be inspired to enter your own. I would love to see if you do, leave me a comment so I can stop by.

Happy Spring!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Companionable

I’m fashionably late on the Weekly Photo Challenge by the Daily Post on WordPress. Believe it or not, I started it a WEEK ago. I almost decided to skip it since today is a new challenge, but then I thought…whatevers…I’m running a week behind. This is my life right now.

Maybe one day I will catch up with myself and your blogs and everything else my heart yearns to do. Until then, I’ll just keep straggling along.

The challenge this last week is Companionable. Don’t you know the featured post is of a lovely fur friend? And don’t you know how much I looooove my dear fur friends??? Oh my gosh, do I ever! My daily companions and office mates as I telecommute to work every day from the room at the front of the house and the desk with the two computers and my dear fur kids all around me. Every day. A mine-field of snips, and snores.

So, of course, that is too easy and I would go overboard. Maybe a future post about my life as a corporate travel agent while simultaneously operating a doggie day-care. Good stuff.

But for now, I give you companionship through my eyes. What I see, and witness with my vision and my heart. There is something beautiful about being a companion. A rare and unmistakable bond that we may not always appreciate until it is shaken. But once on solid rock? Look out, it is for life.

A little companionship from the Fort Worth Zoo.

Nothing says companionable like a beautiful wedding. Images from a sweet union I helped photograph a few weeks ago. Such a privilege to be part of this joyful celebration, along with many adoring family and friends.

Some duos and groups from the beautiful Clear Lake in Houston, Texas.

The girls. Companions for life. Like it or not. Ha.

My dear, sweet companion (the one with no fur). I almost didn’t post this photo (because I am in it..ahhhh!). But he is my true friend, my life companion, and so much more. I really can’t imagine life without him. I can honestly say…putting my full trust in someone was not easy, in fact, near impossible. But I am glad I did and I am glad I chose him (and he, me!).

I couldn’t end this post without ONE last companion. My granddaughter to my daughter.

See….they have been constant companions for 31 WEEKS.

And I think they will be constant companions for quite a long time after another 9 weeks as well. Just not in one body.

I, also, had to include a photo prop to mark the day. Last Sunday (we take weekly photos on Sunday of her pregnancy) marked the SEVENTH year of my youngest step-daughter. We thought it would be cute for the baby to one day look back at how little her Auntie was at the year of her birth. And is Sydney the cutest pregnant girl or what???

Friends, have a wonderful weekend!
