Weekly Photo Challenge: Companionable

I’m fashionably late on the Weekly Photo Challenge by the Daily Post on WordPress. Believe it or not, I started it a WEEK ago. I almost decided to skip it since today is a new challenge, but then I thought…whatevers…I’m running a week behind. This is my life right now.

Maybe one day I will catch up with myself and your blogs and everything else my heart yearns to do. Until then, I’ll just keep straggling along.

The challenge ~~this~~ last week is Companionable. Don’t you know the featured post is of a lovely fur friend? And don’t you know how much I looooove my dear fur friends??? Oh my gosh, do I ever! My daily companions and office mates as I telecommute to work every day from the room at the front of the house and the desk with the two computers and my dear fur kids all around me. Every day. A mine-field of snips, and snores.

So, of course, that is too easy and I would go overboard. Maybe a future post about my life as a corporate travel agent while simultaneously operating a doggie day-care. Good stuff.

But for now, I give you companionship through my eyes. What I see, and witness with my vision and my heart. There is something beautiful about being a companion. A rare and unmistakable bond that we may not always appreciate until it is shaken. But once on solid rock? Look out, it is for life.

Nothing says companionable like a beautiful wedding. Images from a sweet union I helped photograph a few weeks ago. Such a privilege to be part of this joyful celebration, along with many adoring family and friends.

My dear, sweet companion (the one with no fur). I almost didn’t post this photo (because I am in it..ahhhh!). But he is my true friend, my life companion, and so much more. I really can’t imagine life without him. I can honestly say…putting my full trust in someone was not easy, in fact, near impossible. But I am glad I did and I am glad I chose him (and he, me!).

I couldn’t end this post without ONE last companion. My granddaughter to my daughter.

See….they have been constant companions for 31 WEEKS.

And I think they will be constant companions for quite a long time after another 9 weeks as well. Just not in one body.

I, also, had to include a photo prop to mark the day. Last Sunday (we take weekly photos on Sunday of her pregnancy) marked the SEVENTH year of my youngest step-daughter. We thought it would be cute for the baby to one day look back at how little her Auntie was at the year of her birth. And is Sydney the cutest pregnant girl or what???

How I Failed my Blog – Part One

I had big plans to post about my daughter’s 19th Birthday. Her LAST teenage year. Her beginning as a mom…..

Fail….Her birthday was May 6th. Luckily, I took a photo.

My next big blog plan was to post about Mother’s Day. I wanted to be all weepy as my daughter is becoming a mother and I am her mother. How I drove to Oklahoma for the day to see MY MOM. Then, spent Sunday with my other mom, Jason’s Mom. And of course to end it with photos of Sydney and me. I handed my camera to Hubby and had him photograph us for her weekly pregnancy photos AND Mother’s Day.

It was sweet.

But it never got posted.

I, also, did not post about my photography groups’ first reception at the Arlington Museum of Art. We had veggies, fruit, cheese, and crackers. Not nearly enough wine…like only an hour’s worth.

I bought this beautiful bouquet from Central Market. We put some of the flowers in little lens cup holders and set them on the table.

It was so incredibly cute. Of course, after the reception I took them home and enjoyed them another week. I think pink gerbers are my very favorite. Now, we have had our second reception. It was not near as crowded as the first, but lots of fun. Did I mention how beautiful all the photographs on the wall are?

How about how I failed at Spring? You know….the season of beautiful blooms. A nature photographer’s haven. Well, I took them. I took TONS of photos at my Momma Sue’s beautiful spring yard on Easter Sunday (I took some of the kids too – heh).

Her hyacinth bloom. A new edition to her potted plant collection.

Her gorgeous wisteria. A yearly favorite as they are always gorgeous and wisty.

The incredible clover. A favorite of the bees every year, and who knew clover was so pretty!

And most importantly, a BLUE BIRD!

I love blue birds.

And this is what I meant to show you on my blog…..but didn’t.

My last blog miss is from my staycation at the end of March. That’s right. I took a whole week and stayed at home….sort of….I kinda went to Oklahoma for my Mom’s birthday and I made lots of other plans and lunches too.

My stay at home week ended up being a busy one, but super fun. And over wayyyyy too fast.

But one of the things I did on my vacation was go to the Fort Worth Zoo. A favorite place of mine. I happened to catch this little Road Runner at feeding time. I must say I have never seen a bird SO proud of his dinner “catch” in my whole life. He pranced around and around to every window showing off his find and shaking his tail feathers.

I’m sure many will think it gross, but I thought it was so funny. Not to mention, he is a beautiful bird, with or without mice in his beak.

Just when you think WordPress has done it all – well – they introduce distraction-free writing.

A screen of words on white. An empty vessel lighting the way for all font-happy WordPress writers to fill, the best way they know how, by typing.

Enter Full Screen mode.

The reason behind this genius-mode? Well, I assume it is for people like me who just don’t have the concentration they used to (totally blaming social media).

I always plan on writing, but I get too busy doing other things. I see an email pop up, a Facebook notification, or a Twitter message. I’ll be honest. I can’t help myself. I have to click! I have to see! I have to find out what’s going on. It’s just too easy to navigate away and get lost by way of interaction.

I have tried to write during my lunch hour (seems like my only free time), but it never works out. The reason? I was on an old version of Internet Explorer which had buggy WordPress issues. I couldn’t type anything without my screen mode moving to the top. Luckily, they posted about that too and now I’m on a newer, wiser version of internet surfing. Not sure if you are? Try Browse Happy to find out. It made me happy for sure!

Posting about this new feature does not do it justice. DO try it for yourself. I am super ADD on anything techy. I love technology and new formats, but get a little overwhelmed. I usually give up before I get it going (at least once or twice). So, for me, this is good. In the end – fewer distractions. This change has cleared the playground for me. I can now write.

Just write.

No tweaking of my settings, or wandering my eye to categories. No more pondering of my stats via drop down. No more checking for comments, or spam. No more gazing at the widget, links, or general setting tabs. Nope, none of that. I even applied the Full Browser toggle to end the email, Facebook, and Twitter interruptions ( F11 on windows or command+shift+F on Mac).

And since ~~I am blonde?~~ ~~schooled in Oklahoma?~~ allergy fuzzy, it took me a few tries to figure this out (and I didn’t get distracted). And because I like you, and I LOVE WordPress, I have created a very special tutorial for others – ahem – like me.

I actually got a post done today. And? I have MANY more to complete……..newborn photo shoot, wildlife photos, stepping on a snake, and a picnic vintage photo session.

Spring.

It’s in the air.

Vibrant colors desperate for notice.

Creatures great and small.

Taking in the beauty of a new season.

Ok not really…….I made her lay down and pose…believe me she would have rather been eating the tall grass behind the next flower.

But where was I?

Ahhh! Beauty.

Spring has sprung.

Joyful and bright.

Sharing her glory for all to see.

And smell.

For all my fellow allergy sufferers, can I get an A-CHOOO? Yeah, not so fun.

But soooo pretty!

The true sign of spring arrival here in Texas. The Texas BlueBonnets.

They are a staple of our spring landscape. They bring excitement, allure, and pride. Plus, many picture-taking opportunities on highway embankments and fields.

I heard this year they may not be all that.

Well……..I’ll let you be the judge.
