Sushi Zone

The gift of new foods.

As long as I can remember, I did not like fish. No fish of any kind, or cooked in any way. Just bleh! I do not like them Sam I am.

Then, I met Jason, and for him (what love does to a person) I tried RAW fish for the first time.

To my surprise…it is the only fish I like. And it totally backs up my theory that I was a mermaid in a former life.

Reasons I was a mermaid in a former life.

    I love to swim.
I feel called to the ocean.
I could gaze, surf, or snorkel in it – all day long.
    I love deep-sea fishing.
And to top it off, I only like raw fish.

See, told you I was mermaid.

Every month, if I get special spending money from Avis/Budget/Hilton brands for booking cars and hotels. We go to our favorite Sushi restaurant owned and operated by Koji called Sushi Zone. You can even follow them on Facebook.

It’s a place where everybody knows our name. The waitress knows the day we got married. Koji remembers every type of roll we eat, and even that Sydney does not like cucumbers in her California Roll.

They are hands-down the best in service, and quality.

I am not paid in sushi to write this about them (I wish!). I just love them and wanted to share what great service they have with you. Good service really is hard to find these days, and that makes it a gift.

My absolute favorite – fresh Salmon.

My second favorite – California Roll (less the cucumbers for Syd).

And another picture of the California Roll because it is so pretty in color.

My iPhone 4S camera does REALLY great in low-light.

I never imagined I would like this type of food. I guess it just goes to show that life is full of little surprises.

What’s your favorite food? Is there a restaurant that you frequent?

  1. I do not like ANYTHING from the water!

I would say my favorite food is Pizza. It comes in so many shapes and sizes and flavors and ways it is just the PERFECT food.

I don’t frequent restaurants so much because I have a list of ingredients I try to avoid and at restaurants you just don’t know what the ingredients are. My poor husband, bless his heart, will say sweetly, “Do you wanna go out to eat?” He knows that cooking is sometimes not the first thing on my list of want-to-dos and we can go, eat, and not have to clean the kitchen AND he wants to treat me, but I say no thank you more often than not because I just don’t know what is in the food served at restaurants.

And pizza is one of those foods they can easily sneak in those ingredients I try to avoid.

When you come to my area I will take you to a Sushi place. And my husband will come along. He LOVES sushi too!

  2. Mermaid….that’s funny!!! I think I was a coyote…I’m drawn to the moon and the stars the same way you are…and could sleep all day if I could!!!!! Not sure I could eat the occasional stray dog or cat…lol

We had THE best sushi in Maui in 09…I don’t care for the raw stuff…I prefer the California variety!! šŸ™‚

  3. We live in a ridiculously rural area so no decent restaurants and definitely no decent sushi. My daughter and a friend dared each other to try sushi when we were shopping a few years ago about forty minutes from home. Their deal was to pop it into their mouths on three. They go One! Two! Three! Both girls stuck it in their mouths–my daughter didn’t let go and pulled it right back out completely in tact. She then picked at the rice around the edges while leaving the rest on her plate and STILL claims to have tried sushi.

  4. I love sushi! But not the raw stuff. I’m a Philadelphia Roll kind of girl, although I do enjoy the California Roll too. And I have too many favorite foods to just pick one, so I’m going to say most foods are my favorites. šŸ™‚ Cheating, I know. haha

  5. I love fresh salmon too. Suggestion – have them sprinkle a little scallions on the top – just makes the flavor pop!! (…and now I’m hungry so off to rummage in the pantry and see what I can appease myself with).

  6. Go from hating sushi to loving raw fish–craziness! I’ve tried raw fish and it’s not really my thing but I love sushi for the shrimp tempura rolls and the crab rolls and the California rolls (minus the avacado). I think we have a Koji restaurant in downtown Portland and it’s pretty delicious. But Frankie and I go to the sushi place just down the street from our apartment because they have half price sushi everyday, all day. and it’s good! they also have awesome miso soup.
